Loan Underwriter

We are seeking an experienced, positive and motivated individual to join our Home Loans underwriting team. The successful candidate will possess a combination of deal structuring and underwriting skills and experience underwriting mortgage loans for sophisticated borrowers with complex income streams. Our Mortgage Underwriters are responsible for analyzing clients’ financial background, and making lending decisions.

What You’ll Do

  • Accurately review and underwrite loan files in compliance with Company guidelines.

  • Approve or decline loans within assigned authority and turnaround times, adhering to fair lending practices.

​

  •  Analyze borrower financials, credit reports, and documentation for potential fraud or misrepresentation.

​

  • Review appraisals to ensure compliance with secondary market, investor, and company standards.

  • Collaborate with Loan Processors and Loan Officers to collect required information for complete loan packages.

​

  • Provide recommendations to loan officers and processors regarding suitable loan programs.

​

  • Stay updated on industry regulations and trends affecting compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of mortgage underwriting experience.

​

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university

​

  • Expertise in mortgage lending programs, including Non-Conforming, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac guidelines, and automated underwriting systems.

​

  • Familiarity with mortgage and compliance laws and regulations, including FHLMC, FNMA, FHA, RESPA, Reg Z, Reg B, ECOA, HMDA, and Fair lending.

  • Proficient in analyzing complex income and assets.

​

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to meet deadlines.

​

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a collaborative team-oriented approach.
